You may have heard of Mind the Gap before visiting this website,
or you may be completely new to us. Either way, here are 10 things
that you probably didn’t know about us:
- Barclays TMA Stage Award
In October 2002, we were the proud winners of the Barclays TMA
Stage Award for Outstanding Achievement in Regional Theatre.

- Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion
In 2002, Mind the Gap were allowed to adapt Bernard Shaw’s

2003 was our first professional collaboration with a non-disabled
company.
- Theatre skills training
We have provided theatre skills training for over 60 people with
learning disabilities.
- Special Effects Theatre Company
In Sept 2001, a new company was set up called Special Effects
Theatre Company (SFX). SFX is run by graduates of Mind the Gap's
training courses.
- Ian Macmillan
SFX have recently worked with poet Ian Macmillan to produce A
Yorkshire Monologue, which toured regionally in 2003.
- 11 national tours
We have produced 11 national tours, each employing learning disabled
actors.
- Major radio and television roles
Former and current Mind the Gap students have achieved four major
radio and television roles.
- Encouraging inclusion
We believe that arts organisations should become more accessible.
