Making Theatre

Making Theatre is your chance to gain a qualification from the UK’s largest learning disabled theatre company. You will work with professional artists, gaining skills in acting, dance, media, filming, front of house and backstage and technical work in a creative environment.

Throughout the course you will have the opportunity to take part in professional shows alongside our long established Acting Company

How to become a Making Theatre Student?

  • Have a learning disability and are aged 19 or over
  • Our recruitment period happens once a year in April. You will need to fill  in an application form  - email or sign up to our newsletter to receive a form

Making Theatre is an excellent course for students so they can grow in confidence and improve their communication and team working. We also offer support and training for other practical skills such as using computers and travelling independently.

All students who are aged up to 25 work towards an Arts Award qualification over the year long course which is accredited by Arts Council England and Trinity College, London.

Full Time programme:

  • The course starts in October 2014 and finishes in July 2015
  • You will work Monday to Thursday during term time and will usually study from 10am – 3pm
  • You will learn about acting, dance, media and filming and backstage and technical work
  • Take part in workshops delivered by professional artists and performers who work in the arts
  • Opportunities to see external performances by other companies and learn from their work

What does it cost?

We are currently fundraising to part-fund the cost of the course. There will be a charge for all students. In 2013-2014 the charge was £35 per day. We provide travel training where appropriate. If you join Making Theatre you will still be able to claim your benefits and we can help signpost you to find funding to pay for the course.

The taster sessions are a great way to see if the course is for you. Come in and spend half a day with this year’s students and meet the course tutors.
