Before Easter all of us in Acting Company and some of the staff saw a performance by Making Theatre. Following the performance i decided to have a chat with the Making Theatre crew and then do this blog to tell you all about it.
The piece was called Cafe Chaos and it was a scene based in a cafe with other very short scenes within it. I asked how they came up with the idea and they said it was based on all their own ideas of what happens in a cafe. Each of them were given a part of the scene to direct as part of their Directing Skills module, which is new to the course this year.
I asked how they found being a director and about being directed by each other. Some of them said they were quite comfortable with it and others not so much, i can understand this as when you work with someone on a daily basis and then they are put in a position you are not used to seeing them in it can be difficult. Like Israr said, he is used to being directed by Vicky or Charli so someone else doing it feels strange. Liam really enjoyed being the Director and spent lots of time giving feedback - they even had a real director's chair to sit in and he said he didn't want to get out of it!
The props in it looked good, there was a non-edible three tier cake and i especially liked the Programme in the style of a menu. They performed it in AllSpace and as the audience we were sat around as part of it like we were in the cafe.
I thought it was very good and i enjoyed it! It is still a work in progress and is part of a bigger piece that i am looking forward to seeing... and then telling you all about, so watch this space!
