Developing Real Voices Real Lives
Hello Zara here, Acting Company have been working mostly on Real Voices, Real Lives it's about disability hate crime and we've developed scenes. So in one scene there's a perpetrator and a victim who go shopping together and the perpetrator who makes the victim pay all the time. There's another where we sing the song Wheels on the Bus but we put other words in that get used about people who have a learning disability.

Last week of term
Hi it's Zara again. On Monday we had Mia and had the guys back from Stig, we welcomed them back in session. We did like a dance piece all together, I worked with Howard and Susan - different groups came out and did their little bit to show the audience and then we were in a clump. We rehearsed and then did a little showing for staff. It went okay, it was good and I enjoyed working with Howard. We've also been rehearsing Real Voices, Real Lives - we showed Alan and JoAnne it because they've been on tour and haven't seen it.

Placement, intern, researcher? It’s a two-way approach
For the last couple of weeks Mind the Gap has hosted an internship with New York theatre-maker Katy Rubin. Katy is the Founding Artistic Director of Theatre of the Oppressed NYC. A US organization called The Theatre Communications Group, funded the internship through its Global Connections scheme. It was a really successful experience for everyone concerned.

Workshop with Hector Aristizabal
On Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 November Acting Company and Making Theatre worked with Theatre of the Oppressed practitioner, Hector Aristizabal from Columbia. Tim met Hector at a Theatre of the Oppressed event in Kolkata, India last year, and invited him to come and work with the Company. Tim said, “It was great to be able to invite Hector to work with Mind the Gap. He is an inspirational theatre maker and he brings a unique perspective.”

Real Voices, Real Lives
We've been working with Emma, she used to work for Mind the Gap, now she's doing freelance work and is helping us out with Real Voices, Real Lives. Real Voices, Real Lives is about hate crime for people with disabilities. Someone came in and spoke to us about bad things that have happened to disabled people like being followed home and getting bullied. And about people using your money, Acting Company have called them Thursday Friends, because they come the same day every week and are supposed to help you and take you out, but really take all your money.

My new role
Hello Chris here, going I'm going to tell you about what I've been doing. This year is a lot different because sometimes I do Acting Company things but I'm also doing lots of Front of House things working with Lisa, Ben and Hamish. That means sorting out all the things for when we do shows, being an usher and welcoming everyone to Mind the Gap.

Media & technology Summer School
Hello, it's Zara to tell you about the Media Summer School we've been having this week. I've been co-facilitating with Bee and Dave. It's about media and filmmaking, the participants have been learning about film and technology, and having fun as well! We've been playing lots of games like Zip, Zap, Boing and Pass the Clap which everyone really enjoyed. We're trying to get faster and faster at Pass the Clap - we did it 3 times today and it's getting faster.

How many Mind the Gap staff does it take to photograph some cake?
Five plus a photographer, it seems. But that might be because we all wanted to eat the leftovers! This week our very own Ms Kipling, Learning & Skills Officer Charli Ward baked a range of cakes, cupcakes and even 'stunt' cakes for a photo shoot here at Mind the Gap Studios. The photographer is Lynne from Threefold, who is working with us, to create some information about sponsorship opportunities and ways to get involved with Mind the Gap.
