Back and busy

Hello, all of the Acting Company here giving you our first week back blog. It’s our first week back after our Half Term holiday.  ‘What holiday’ said Susan, Jonny, Ed, Jonathan and Alan, who all worked on Shadow People. On Monday we had 30 visitors from Northumbia Uni, they were Matt Hargrave’s Theatre degree students.  Matt caused havoc as usual and we want our fob back!  They were friendly and ‘studenty’ and we liked having them around, they had cool hair and lovely accents.

Mothball 4th December

On 4th December we had our Mothball which was well attended. Before Mothball, our Production Manager taught some of us how to operate the brand new lighting rig to help get the place looking perfect.   The night was full of fun and surprises, there was a String Trio and as the guests arrived they were introduced by the very well dressed M.C. (by the way, the M.C. was me, Edmund!)

Official Launch of Mind the Gap Studios

Tuesday November 18th was the Official Opening of our new Studios and lots of people came to the event. Baroness Lockwood, our President, unveiled a shiny plaque and made a speech to everyone.   Acting Company and Making Theatre gave all the people tours of the building, playing either a chicken or an 'Egg-spert' - it was great to show the building and all the things in it, everyone who came really enjoyed discovering the building and learning more about Mind the Gap. It was also very useful for people who would like to hire it for special events.

We're here in the new building!

We are Zara and Edmund from the Acting Company. We are writing this blog because we are from the IF group – the Ideas Forum at Mind the Gap. It is the group that comes up with ideas to help Mind the Gap move forward with lots of exciting projects. We’re going to write about this building and about Mind the Gap all this year. Our new building is very spacious! We have a nice kitchen, and loads of space where it’s nice to chat.

Getting to know the building

This week we have been planning our schools' programme work and getting to know more about our new building. We have been preparing for the return of Making Theatre, we talked about creating 'Big Brother' style games using new technology so we can welcome them to our new place. We are now in the new building and we love it!

You and YouTube

As your trusted blogger, i thought i would give you a bit of an update about what we have been up to since the Boo performances here at MTG. You and YouTube involved me and Zara from Acting Company and, Liam and Alison from Making Theatre.  We were working for a full week with students from Parkside School and Braithwaite School and Greg from C & T, or as we liked to call him 'funny hat man'... because of his taste in headgear!

CYC Event

This week me and Zara are going to tell you about the CYC event we had here on Friday last week.  There were four schools involved with pupils and staff so all together about 70 people arrived - when they first got here we performed Never Again for them and then all split off into groups after the first break.   There were three different groups Ed and Charli had one group, Chris and Emma had one group and so did Rio and Zara.  We played the name game, where one person says their name and performs an action then everyone else copies them to get warmed up.

Four Seasons

Us in the Acting Company are working on a piece called Four Seasons, which is a complete sensory experience workshop for people with complex needs. Schools and groups will be coming here to MTG Studios.  The workshop incorporates four out of the five senses, all except taste.  We are going to be using incense to make people think of each season.  We will also be projecting images that relate to each season on the screen, for example a beach for summer and a tree covered in snow for winter.  As we move into each season the images on the screen change.

Busy, busy...

This week will see the premier of 4 Seasons, we have five groups coming to participate, we have some schools some groups and day centres. Making Theatre are seeing it tomorrow and will participate, they have helped us devise it and have been willing victims… I mean volunteers!  We are watching their performance of I am the World tomorrow which they tour next week.
