Determined to build up their Air Miles, earlier in the year Tim and Jez also traveled to Hong Kong to do some work over there.

Hong Kong visitors
Last week we were working withe two artists from Hong Kong called Mok Chiu Yu and Yuen Jie. They were working with all of us in Acting Company and Making Theatre as well. We did dance based exercises for the whole week. We did the skin dance in which you touch or tap your partner very gently. We did the interpretation dance which is like the Mirror Game, but you don't copy you interpret the other person's movements in your own way. So it doesn't have to be exactly the same as your partner is doing.

Hong Kong Blog 2: Dim sum
We met the Caritas group today. They have been working on the Moth Ball with Mandy Chen since March. Mandy was a CCCD intern that worked with Mind the Gap on the Moth Ball last December. We are also working with Joyce Lee who studied the MA in Theatre and Development at University of Leeds. We worked with her on I’m with Stupid at the beginning of 2008. After the rehearsal we went to a musical instrument shop. Jez played a Gu-zheng in the shop and Tim played a gong! We then went to eat Dim sum which range of small dishes of food served in bamboo steamers. It is beautifully presented.

Hong Kong Blog 1: The Journey
Over the next two weeks we will be getting regular blog entries and images from Tim Wheeler and Jez Colborne as they keep us updated with their Hong Kong adventure. Before leaving Jez said, 'I’m looking forward to a lot of excitement and a lot of fun. I just want to enjoy my time in Hong Kong and have a good time. Big love to the Boo cast and Mind the Gap. Rock on!' In their first update they let us know about their journey:

Hong Kong Blog 3: Our Cooked Goose
Yesterday we ate a whole goose. It was cooked of course! Mandy had to take most of it home. Jez has been invited to play a gig at a local Tea House on Friday evening so has been practicing with a musician called Man. The Tea House is wonderful. You can get many types of tea in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Blog 4: Lost in translation
Jez is really itching to buy some new combat gear. We went to eat curry at the infamous Chungking Mansions and he nearly bought 500 camouflage jackets from the wholesale market there! Chungking has changed in recent years but it used to be a cheap (and seedy) place to stay for backpackers and migrant workers. It is like a huge warren full of shops, restaurants and hostels. Today Jez met a blind musician called Hong and they jammed together in a recording studio in the Lutheran Centre for the Blind. We hope that Hong may be able to take part in Moth Ball HK.

Hong Kong Blog 5: Birthday blog
Today is Jez’s birthday. Hurrah! We asked Mok how birthdays are celebrated in Hong Kong. He said that it is traditional to throw a person into the river on their birthday. Jez was relieved to find out that Mok was only joking! We have a full rehearsal today with everyone involved in Moth Ball HK. This evening Tim is running the first of his workshops and Jez is going out to see some dance with Mok. A very cultural evening! Jez: Hey it’s my birthday. Gone is 37 and now I am 38. Ya-hoo! But as they say, work before pleasure - ha-ha-ha!

Hong Kong Blog 7: What's in a name?
The name Hong Kong is Cantonese meaning Fragrant Harbour. People in Hong Kong speak Cantonese, which is different to Mainland China where they speak Mandarin. We are working with people who have some very interesting names like Giraffe, Monster and Handsome. We asked them where they got their names. They said that at school they had to choose an English name when they were learning English. They decided to keep these names. Other people prefer to use their Chinese names and some people change their name depending who they are with.

Hong Kong Blog 8: It's always darkest before the dawn
We had the first run today with all the cast though we had to run the show backwards – last scene first. There is still a great deal to do. Why is it always darkest just before dawn? It’s going to look amazing and quite different to Moth Ball in UK. Joyce is singing with Jez this time. They make a really funky fusion pair. Mandy has written a fantastic script full of light and dark.

Hong Kong Blog 9: Chinese Curtain Call
The first show went exceptionally well with the audience really loving it. The performers were elated with the audiences response. “We blew ‘em away in HK!” said Jez. Now we have to do it all again!
