Mind the Gap is moving to Lister Mills

In Autumn 2008 we are moving into a purpose-built, state of the art rehearsal space in Lister Mills, Bradford. If you're looking to hire accessible rehearsal or studio spaces, Mind the Gap has the perfect venue.

Why are we moving?

Our company had grown too big for the space we were in, and we have grand plans for the future.

We want our space to help us create opportunities for learning disabled people in Bradford, the UK and beyond.

We want to create a rehearsal and studio space that is well known for its facilities and its work on theatre and learning disability.

Most importantly we want people to know how easy the building is to use, and come and use it!

What will the building be like?

The space we are moving into is designed to be inclusive - it's all about making our new building a place everyone can use safely, easily and confidently.

Studio 1 will be a rehearsal studio with technical facilities like sound and lighting. It will be used for large workshops and rehearsals. It will have audiovisual facilties for making films and music too.

Studio 2 will be a workshop studio for groups of up to 15 people.

Studio 3 will be a large dance/movement studio with a sprung floor.

There will be office spaces and meeting rooms for the company's staff to do their work, because every company has to have somewhere to put the printer...

Can we hire these spaces?

All these fantastic facilities will be available for your group or organisation to hire when we move into the building in Autumn this year.

Who designed it?

Our architects worked very closely with all our staff, actors and students to understand what we all needed from our new home.

Allen Tod Architects created such good plans that CABE, the government's advisor on architecture, urban design and public space, gave our project an Award for Inclusive Design (2007).

How much will it cost to build?

In total the building will cost just over £2 million.

Our company is well known for the quality of its work, and so other organisations have kindly given us some money to build this new home. We have been working with Bradford Council on this project.

The National Lottery through Arts Council England has given us £1.25 million, and ERDF has given us nearly £800,000 for the building work.

The money for equipping the spaces for our company and its theatrical work has been donated by the Wolfson Foundation and by WREN (the Waste Recycling and Environmental group).
