About Mind the Gap

Mind the Gap is an experienced touring theatre company based in Bradford, Yorkshire, which performs around the UK and internationally.

We are a professional theatre company that helps people with learning disabilities become professional actors, and helps actors with learning disabilities achieve their potential.

We don’t believe in patronising people, or telling people with learning disabilities what they should aspire to.

"We believe in quality, equality and inclusion. Our mission is to dismantle the barriers to artistic excellence so that learning disabled and non-disabled artists can perform alongside each other as equals".

We do believe in quality theatre productions, raising other people’s expectations and we make sure the opportunities we create are accessible to everyone.

We know that disabled people and people with learning disabilities come across barriers that can stop them. We also know that many of these barriers can be taken away, or not put in to begin with. That’s why we’ve worked so hard to make our studios, our courses, workshops and website accessible.

We want to help challenge people’s perceptions of disability-related theatre, and raise expectations of what people with learning disabilities can achieve.

We offer ways for everyone, at every level, to get into theatre:

  • As a Theatre Company we make great theatre shows. Our adaptations of classic texts are performed by disabled people, but are for everyone to enjoy, and they do!
  • Our brand new Studios for hire are ideal rehearsal, workshop and meeting spaces designed for developing new work, being creative, exploring the possibilities of an idea. Your next rehearsal space is just a phone call away!
  • An Actors’ Agency for professional actors with learning disabilities helps with casting a learning disabled actor
  • Our outreach theatre workshops are for young people who want to try acting and learn some drama skills, and have a lot of fun
  • We run roadshow workshops around Bradford and across the UK, for people with learning disabilities to try out work from our actor training courses
  • Beginner actor training, for people to get a qualification while they learn all kinds of theatre skills, from Front of House, through Acting, to Design
  • Specialist actor training at some of the UK’s top drama schools, for people with learning disabilities with more experience
  • We help other organisations achieve equal opportunities for learning disabled people. We offer training, workshops and consultancy
