Come and See days

Come and See 2009For 2010/11 we area taking a holistic approach to our schools and colleges programme.  We are hosting Come and See days for pupils to experience a range of Mind the Gap's work.

The first part of the day will be a presentation delivered by the Acting Company, our ensemble of professional learning disabled actors.  Then pupils will take part in an inclusive movement workshop, see an extract from our upcoming national tour and a piece of Forum Theatre.

This year the students on Making Theatre (our OCN accredited training course for people with learning disabilities) are focusing on Forum Theatre, led by our Artistic Director, Tim Wheeler who has a wealth of Forum experience.  Forum is a type of theatre in which the audience are asked to step into a piece to try and find solutions to problems, it is designed to challenge attitudes and be a catalyst for social change.  It is great in helping pupils develop problem solving and social skills, encouraging them to look at a situation from another pespective.

All the sessions will be co-led by members of the Acting Company and Making Theatre, as we have always found that school and college pupils respond well to this kind of peer mentoring. During the day pupils will also find out about projects we run outside school time that they might like to get involved in.

If you are a staff member at a school or college and think your pupils would benefit from this project, please contact Ben on 01274 487390 or email ben@mind-the-gap.org.uk
