“We’ve got a long way to go but I’m quite chuffed with what’s been achieved this week” - 16th Dec 2011
This week I’ve been at Mind the Gap, and with the help of Si and Mike, I had to create two new songs. One about my life when I was younger hating the sirens, the other is like a hoedown to get the crew and the audience going.
On Monday me and Si were doing the music, then on Tuesday Si and Mike came in and we were talking about the lyrics and the tune and jotted some down. Yesterday me and Mike worked together juts writing lyrics and trying to get the songs ready, and today was the recording of them.
I like the songs but they need to be kind of worked on – not the tunes, but the lyrics really. At the moment it’s talking about war and things and maybe people don’t want to hear about that kind of thing.
The first thing me and Si did today was sketch out and record the two songs, and then I worked with Billy this afternoon – trying to do percussive elements for the symphony of sirens.
I was directing Acting Company and it was a bit of a challenge getting people to listen, but as people got confident with it, it got better. Alison was talking about how a conductor leads an orchestra, so I have to gain the skills of conductor and director as well.
I think this was useful, I like watching conductors and how they use their faces and their body and their hands – they can be very romantic in their movements. That’s going to be quite a challenge but I’m going to take it head on and start controlling my orchestra – we’ve got a long way to go but I’m quite chuffed with what’s been achieved this week.
