Irresistible heads to Switzerland

It’s just over a month to go until Jez and his crew head to Switzerland for their European tour and we are all getting very excited here at Mind the Gap HQ.

After watching the show being performed at the London 2012 Olympic celebrations, Switzerland festival organisers commissioned Irresistible to be performed across four different festivals in cities across Switzerland; Wildwuchs, BewegGrund, Okkupation! and Dansehabile.

Mind the Gap’s Artistic Director Tim Wheeler said, “After the huge success in London, we are really excited to have this opportunity to present Jez’s work on an international scale. The show just keeps getting bigger and better – captivating all those who see it.”

If you don’t get a chance to see it in Switzerland then it will be coming to Cardiff’s Unity Festival on 15th-16th June on it’s return to the UK. Click here for more information.

Keep your eye on our Facebook and Twitter, pages as we will be updating Jez and the crew’s activities whilst they are touring Switzerland. Follow and like our pages if you haven’t already!

Reflections Festival/Irresistible Postponed!

The unseasonal weather has forced Bradford Council to postpone the Reflections creative arts festival event scheduled for Saturday 23rd March.

The blanket of white that has descended upon the City Park in central Bradford, and forecast of freezing conditions overnight, means it will not be safe for audiences and participants.

We are already working closely with Bradford Council to set a a new date to ensure that Irresistible comes to the beautiful surroundings of Bradford City Park in the near future, and that local people will get to see this atmospheric show in our home town.

The Mind the Gap team is looking forward to working alongside Bradford’s other leading artists to create a fantastic event for families from all over the District!

Have a safe and happy weekend everyone and thank you for your continued support.

Irresistible

Irresistible is an energetic and euphoric live event combining music, theatre, film and sirens and tells the story of a man on a journey. He meets the Hobos, who guide him; the Crew, who Intimidate him; and the singing Sirens, who lure him.

Irresistible is the creation of Jez Colborne in collaboration with Mind the Gap. Jez is a multi talented composer, musician and performer with a learning disability.

Irresistible Conquers London

Jez with open arms at the National Theatre

A huge thanks to everyone who followed our Irresistible journey to the capital and made it such a huge success. After 2 previews and 5 full performances, Jez Colborne and Mind the Gap truly showed London how it’s done. We had a brilliant time and couldn’t have wished for better weather. Mind the Gap’s Artistic Director Tim Wheeler tweeted, “It was the most intense, beautiful, supportive, loved-up week in Mind the Gap’s history”.

Between 1 and 8 September we did two Preview shows at the Liberty Festival and the Olympic Park and five full-scale shows at National Theatre’s Watch This Space and the Southbank Centre. Watch This Space tweeted “Wonderful show from Mind the Gap tonight. Thank you guys for three superb Performances”. Danny Braverman tweeted “Mind the Gap’s show was irresistible in so many ways. Lovely to be amongst so many enthralled children”. All performances were well attended and met with rapturous applause.

Once again, thanks for all your support. We had an amazing week and some unforgettable experiences.

The cast of Irresistible in front of the coach to London

Hello Chris Steel here again with this week’s blog. Well the day has finally arrived that the cast of Irresistible go down to London! Jez Colborne and Mind the Gap’s Artistic Director Tim Wheeler went down last Friday and did a preview performance at the Liberty Festival, which was well received by the friendly audience.

Jo-Anne told us “As well as our shows at the National Theatre and Southbank Centre, some of the cast will be doing a performance in the Olympic Park on Friday too which is exciting. I am most looking forward to the performance on Wednesday evening at National Theatre’s Watch this Space as it is outdoors and some of my friends and family are coming to see it”. I hope they enjoy their trip to London and tell all their friends to come and watch the show as well!

Don’t forget, there are FREE shows of Irresistible at the following times:

National Theatre’s Watch this Space:
Wednesday 5th September at 10pm
Thursday 6th September at 6:15pm and 10pm.

Southbank Centre’s Clore Ballroom:

A Hobo in a wheel chair and a member of the Crew on a scooter

Hello, Chris Steel here again, Mind the Gap’s in house reporter. Today I have been asking the about some of the vehicles that the cast will be using in Irresistible. Jonathan Lewis said, “I use the wheelchair to help me when I’m reading palms.” I also asked Jonathan about the character that he plays, “My character is one of the Hobos. He walks quite slowly and likes to sleep. He has travelled everywhere.” Tim Wheeler, Mind the Gap’s Artistic Director said, “Jonathan’s character is like one of the Roman Gods. He’s a mischief maker and I think the others just about tolerate him!”

Susan Middleton explained, “The hobos are searching the audience for the one. They check the audience members’ palms, hoping to find the one, but then shake their heads because none of them are.” She explained, “Jez is the one, because he has a small line on his hand that proves it.”

That’s all from me for now, remember that Irresistible will be in London next week. See our Facebook event page here for further details
