What would happen if a six-foot cube of Yorkshire Stone appeared without explanation, one morning in a public place in the middle of your City?
Immovable is a playful, interactive installation that inspires passion, performance, curiosity, extreme sports and laughter.
Immovable first appeared in May 2012: in the middle of the night it blocked off a public road in Barnsley, England. The block was streamed live via CCTV over the Internet 24 hours a day for a whole week. 20,000 people all over the world tuned in to enjoy the exciting interventions, which took place on and around the Immovable block.
After its Barnsley appearance the block travelled to York Minster in June 2012 and more recently was seen in Bradford’s City Park in May 2013.
Some other comments from the live CCTV feed: “I love watching people walking past trying not to look at the block.” “I love this. A proper in ‘yer face art intervention. Hurrah!!!!” “It’s addictive, can’t wait to see what happens next!” “Just saw some people trying to move the immovable, captivating stuff!”
Immovable is an ongoing project, and is set to reappear at locations across the UK over 2013 and 2014. Who knows where Immovable will appear next… Could it be a street in your town?
