Magna Carta on Trial

In June 2015 the Magna Carta celebrated its 800th Birthday – and we celebrated with the Magna Carta on Trial! A project that aimed to educate and inspire young people from the Bradford area with this key part of our legal and cultural heritage, in partnership with Freedom Studios.

Between May 2015 and April 2016, we engaged with more than 1000 people. We ran 107 workshops; performed 3 shows in Bradford Council Chambers to nearly 300 audience members; invaded Lincoln with an army of 31 people to see the actual Magna Carta; created 8 short films about history, independence, ambitions and human rights; devised and delivered a 90-minute schools workshop; interviewed 9 young people from India and America; worked with a Judge, a Professor and a Mayor, and became: (amongst other things) Kings, Princes, Lawyers, Doctors, Cleaners, Presidents, Prime Ministers, Protesters, Barons, Soldiers, Suffragettes, Peasants, Lords, Birds, Michael Jackson Tribute Acts, Bus Drivers, Security Guards and the French!

Here you can take a look at the activities that took place during the project, watch our ‘Magna Carta… in ten minutes!’ film and find about our schools workshop aimed at Key Stage 3 & 4, which is available to book now!

This project is supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Magna Carta Trust.
