The cast of our next UK tour – Stig of the Dump were in today to look at a minature model of the set for the show, and then to take part in a rhythm and percussion workshop with Billy Hickling, who was a performer in the show ‘Stomp’. For the production the actors will be making music with everyday items that can be found in Stig’s dump.
We had a chat with Alan Clay, Daniel Collier JoAnne Haines , Gemma Ryan to find out how it went, JoAnne said, “We looked at a model of Stig of the Dump, it was like a mini-version of the whole theatre. It looks brilliant, I can’t wait to climb on it… the real thing that that is!”
Alan said, “Billy’s from a group called Stomp who make music from rubbish, we’ve been doing about rhythms and making music from your body and getting a beat. He had cow bones that looked like ribs, and we made music out of them, a bit like playing the spoons.”
Gemma: “Billy did a display first and it was a bit scary, he was so amazing! It was good fun and now my brain is full of ideas about different junk options and the way that we can use them to make a more textured noise.
This is my first time working with Mind the Gap so it was really good to get to know Alan, JoAnne and Daniel more… I think they’ll be good to me!”
Daniel thought, “the set was very good, it took me back to my childhood when I used to make models out of boxes and stuff. It was useful to do the workshop, one minute you were doing something then bam! doing something else which is what it will be like in the show.”
