A Fond Farewell: Celebrating Our Incredible Board Members
It’s time to say a huge thank you and farewell to four of our fantastic Trustees.

Rodger Walker has been part of Mind the Gap’s journey for an incredible 32 years! Since joining the Board in 1992, he has worked tirelessly to ensure that Mind the Gap is a welcoming and inclusive environment. As Chair of the People and Home Action Group, he has helped create policies that protect staff, students, and artists, making sure our workplace is safe and supportive for everyone. His dedication has shaped the company in so many ways, and we are incredibly grateful for his contribution.
Jerry Whaley first joined Mind the Gap in 1997 to offer his financial expertise, helping the company remain sustainable and grow. Over the years, he has taken on various leadership roles, including Chair of the Board and, most recently, Chair of the Money and Partners Action Group. His knowledge and strategic thinking have been invaluable in ensuring that Mind the Gap can continue its vital work. Beyond finance, Jerry has a love for music, playing piano and ukulele in his spare time. We can’t wait to see what he does next!
Linda Jones joined our Board in 2015, and has been a strong advocate for equality, ensuring that accessibility remains at the heart of everything we do. As part of both the People and Home Action Group and the Equalities Working Group, she has played a key role in making Mind the Gap a fair and inclusive space. With a background in youth work and teaching drama, she understands the power of the arts to change lives. Outside of Mind the Gap, Linda has been active in her community, setting up a Pop-Up Pantry to support those in need. She’s also exploring new creative pursuits, from writing to salsa dancing—go Linda!
Joanna Haines has been with us since 2016, bringing her experience in education and mentoring to the Board. She has always been passionate about breaking down barriers to learning and ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Alongside her role at Mind the Gap, she runs a before-and-after-school club, supporting children and families in her community. She is also a proud mum to Mind the Gap artist JoAnne, making her an integral part of our extended family. Jo’s warmth and dedication will be deeply missed, but we know she will continue to make a difference wherever she goes.
To Rodger, Jerry, Linda, and Joanna—thank you for your passion, dedication, and unwavering support of Mind the Gap. You’ve been an essential part of our story, and we know you’ll always be part of the MTG family. We wish you all the best in your next adventures—whether that’s traveling, dancing, playing music, or simply enjoying some well-earned rest!
