Mind the Gap has been successfully approved for funding by Groundwork UK to receive a European Social Fund Community Grant of £19,894. The funding will be used for a new project called Future Me to help unemployed learning disabled people to advance towards employment, education and training.

Future Me is an employment programme that will engage 15 people with learning disabilities aged 17 to 50 years to help them advance towards employment, education and training.  The programme will prepare participants for work and provide clear training and progression routes to take part in work experience and volunteering in arts and cultural venues and organisations. The project will take place between October 2020 and March 2021 with a blend of virtual and real-world delivery.

People with learning disabilities are largely invisible as artists, audiences and participants in the arts and culture sector. Future Me will ensure that people with learning disabilities are not left behind in strategic thinking and can access opportunities and services for growth and, with the right support, the chance to achieve equally to the best of their ability.

Mind the Gap would like to see better representation of people with learning disabilities in regional cultural settings; in theatres, museums, galleries and events. During this uncertain period, we want to make sure that people with learning disabilities have the chance to be a part of their future.

Keep an eye out for more information soon…
